Since opening my channel I've had more than one personal message from believers who state, in one form or another, that regardless of the material I post in my videos they are convinced God exists because they can "feel" him, or in some way have had a "personal encounter" with God. I've learned over the years that it is futile to try and have a rational discussion with such people. Such conversations are futile not because these people are lunatics or in some sense wired differently than the skeptic, but because what they've chosen to base their faith upon is not open to a rational discussion. You cannot convince someone their personal, biased "experience" of God didn't happen. They're convinced it did. This is not to say one shouldn't present the evidence for where these personal experiences likely had their origin: the brain. But because of the intense, personal nature of the experience, many people who have them will remain unmoved by the naturalistic explanation and, if they remain so, it is in the skeptic's best interest to simply wish such folks a good day and move along.

In this video I explore this issue of "feeling God" with advice to skeptics to realize there may come a time in discussions with such people that advancement of the conversation is going to be impossible.

In this episode: The power of the Resurrection.

Biblical creationists claim both that the Bible was authored by their omniscient, omnipotent deity, and that this divine creator authored the history of life on earth. We know from reading this author's written text that he often inspired anachronisms in his narratives. These anachronisms can be used to determine the author's style of writing. So, if anachronisms are a hallmark of one the deity's texts, why don't we find these same hallmarks in his other "text,": the fossil record?

Proponents and skeptics of the biblical tale of the flood of Noah are deadlocked in debate. Can a solution to the puzzle really be this simple?

What if there really was an omnipotent, omniscient god responsible not only for the creation of the universe, our solar system, our planet and the life upon it, but also for the narrative of Genesis 1? Certainly there are those who already think this is the case. But, in The Bible Skeptic series, "What Genesis Got Wrong," we know that the biblical tale of creation in Genesis 1 got virtually every detail of origins wrong. So what would a scientifically and historically accurate version of Genesis look like if it really had been inspired by a deity which truly was responsible for the creation of all we see as such origins have been discovered by the methods of modern science?

AN ACCURATE GENESIS TEXT:

In the beginning, God created the heavens. After much time, he gathered dust and formed the sun, causing it to burn brightly even though the earth was not yet. In time, God gathered the dust and formed the earth. He formed the other planets and moon, also, and placed them around the sun, each in its circuit. The earth was empty. It was hot. After much time the earth grew cool and God caused it to rain upon the face of the land. A great ocean did God form upon the earth and for many, many years no life was found upon the face of the deep. Then, one day, God said let there be life, and life formed in the ocean. Life begat life and ocean teemed with tiny creeping things. In time, God had the creeping things change and become the fish of the sea. In time, the fish came upon the land to subdue it for God had brought the plants and vegetation out of the sea to cover the land which he had formed. The creeping things came upon the land and they, too, changed. And in time large beasts came upon the fields and conquered the earth, and yet no man had breathed the breath of life. Birds, too, from the beasts of the land and filled the air. Then God sent a rock from the heavens upon the earth and destroyed the beasts of the land. But a remnant survived and God was sorry he had destroyed the life he had planted. New grass, and trees and herbs yielding seed formed and beasts of the field, too. Moving creatures and creatures of the sea changed and replenished the earth. And God said, "It is not good that the earth has no human" and so God created Man. From the animals of the plain, did God create man, to walk upright and be tillers of the ground, hunters of beasts, and builders of great cities.
