Reading in bed is often replicating the same position you adopt all day - pelvic and spinal flexion. The body isn't designed to do this as frequently as chair based cultures do, and this causes pain and stiffness. You need to be thinking 'extension' as your remedy against the pains caused by flexion. Google 'extension stretches' and see what your body can take. Lots of people are so locked in flexion that any form of extension can be tough. Try lying on your stomach (prone) to start with - this is a gentle and supported form of extension and a good place for super stiff people to start.
